Going to and Will
The two most common ways to speak about events that will happen in the future are with “will” and “going to”.
Will is used for immediate decisions and scientific predictions.
Will is used like this:
Subject + will + base verb + rest of sentence
Negative: will not or won’t
He will stay at my house tonight.
They will play tennis today.
I won’t repeat the sentence.
Will she come play basketball?
Going to is used for plansand when you can see what’s going to happen.
Going to uses present continuous:
Subject + verb: to be (in present) + going to + base verb + rest of sentence.
You are going to write a composition about plants.
He is going to live with his grandmother.
We aren’t going to run a race.
Are you going to speak with the teacher on Monday?
